MAGNUS G. THORSTENN, born June 23, 1957, graduated from the University of Iceland, School of Law in 1983, has a diploma in Advanced International Legal Studies from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and received his L.L.M. in corporate and commercial law from New York University, School of Law in 1990.

After graduation from the School of Law in Iceland, Mr. Thorstenn worked as a Deputy Judge in the Municipal Court in Kopavogur, Iceland and as an attorney with a corporate law firm in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mr. Thorstenn has practiced law in New York since 1984 and has extensive experience in the areas of international commercial and corporate law, primarily aircraft purchase and lease transactions.  

He was General Counsel to Air Atlanta Icelandic from 1991 to 2005 and General Counsel for Avion Group (later Eimskipafelag Islands), a publicly listed company in Iceland, from 2005 to March 2008.  Mr. Thorstenn was Air Atlanta Icelandic’s CEO for 2 years (1999 – 2001). 

Mr. Thorstenn has been General Counsel to Avion Aircraft Trading since its formation in 2005 and is, currently,  the sole member of its Board of Directors.  

Mr. Thorstenn is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., the United States District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and as a member of the Bar of the State of New York is authorized to appear in all of the Courts of the State of New York.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and euro ius, an association of European attorneys.

Thorsteinn O. Thorsteinsson

Director Accounting and Asset Management

Born in Iceland 1963. Graduated from the University of Iceland in Business Administration – Auditing 1988 and from the Commerical College of Iceland 1983. Employed by the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) in Finland 1986. Then worked as an auditor in the years 1987-1993 with PricewaterhouseCoopers, previously named Coopers and Lybrand.

His aviation career started in 1994 with Air Atlanta Icelandic (AAI) as Chief Accountant. Within AAI he had various rules such as Manager Accounting 1998, Vice President of Accounting and Audit 2000 and finally as CEO Assistant and Internal Audits in 2004. Thorsteinn joined Avion Group hf when it was established in 2005 as Director of Group Accounting. When Avion Aircraft Trading was formalized he took over the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). His current responsibilities from December 2006 is Director Accounting and Asset Management.

Thorstenn has been running the Avion Icelandic office in Reykjavik since 2009.    He is also taking care of the daily lease management for Avion Leasing Ltd.

Santos Dumont

Early in 2010, Santos Dumont in Ireland founded in 2004, was hired for exclusive technical support, mainly monitoring the maintenance part for 2 B747-400 converted freighters owned by Avion Leasing Limited.  

The company provides a range of customized consultancy and management services aimed at the operating lease sector of the aviation industry.

The company is named after the Brazilian born aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont who holds the distinction of being the first person to fly a heavier than air machine in Europe.
